Elephant Butte and T or C
An hour north of Las Cruces is Truth or Consequences, with a name so long that maps and street signs abbreviate to “T or C.” The adjoining community of Elephant Butte has a lake of the same name, created artificially by a dam built in the 1920′s.
From the white rings at the base of the rocky outcroppings, it becomes obvious just how dry the summer was.
