Krista and I were having a discussion the other day about President Obama and his potential GOP contenders, and we got to discussing the net worth of the US Presidents. This led me to find this article from The Atlantic from May 2010. It discusses the net worth of each president and how they acquired their wealth. Granted, it is not a bulletproof analysis: as many of my friends have pointed out, the researchers chose rather arbitrary points in each president’s life at which to determine net worth. But it is still an interesting portrait of the economic status of each president – particularly that of Washington and Kennedy, off the chart with over $500 million and $1 billion respectively – and encourages a discussion of class and privilege among those in power.
